Golf Course
The golf course has really benefited from the recent rain. With another 2.47” of rain this week, areas that were stressed have improved and are green and growing.
The recent rains have been great and I am certainly not complaining but we still have a ways to go. We are still 18.29” behind last years rainfall total year-to-date. This pictures shows we still have 3-4 feet of exposed lake banks. Normally in mid August, it would be overflowing into the grass.
It has still been very hot here this week and even in the heat our maintenance staff has been working hard and making great progress. In addition to our mowing and detail work, this week we groomed the greens 4 times, applied topdressing and brushed it in. The grooming or light verticutting process removes excess and uneven leaf tissue while the topdressing fills in small imperfections on the surface. Combining these processes helps smooth the surface and improves the firmness of the greens.
Another task this week has been redistributing sand in the bunkers. The sand over a period of time works it’s way to the bottom of the bunker and has to be manually pushed back up onto the faces. As you can see from the pictures, there are many bunkers where our liner was showing but after the guys are finished, the bunkers are smoother and the liners have been covered.
Common Grounds
With the recent rain, we were able to shut down the irrigation this week and make a repair near the tennis courts in the landscape. The rain helped because in order to isolate this break, we had to shut down the water between hole #8 & hole #1. Doing so leaves the putting green without water for a day or two which would dry it out if we were not getting rain.
When we work on underground pipes it always make me wonder what the world would look like if we could pick up all the soil and see what is underneath. I know if would be surprising and would look like a mess of pipe and wires running all over the place. Here is just one little section with the dirt removed and you can see there are several water lines in the area, imagine just what is underneath GE.

After…looks like we were never there.
We had another busy week, with a/c repairs and replacements, at one point we had 4 a/c units down. Thankfully we have worked thru those issues and only have one unit that is still giving us a few problems. We will keep working on that one and have it fixed as quickly as possible.
While the a/c contractor was hard at work, so was Hector. Prepping the front office (new chair, etc.) for Tiffani to start on Tuesday, moving shelves in the kitchen so the a/c company could do their work, and his personal favorite, pressure washing the walls at the front entrance…they look great!
