Golf Course

As these pictures of #18 show, the golf course is green and growing.

#18 provides another great example of the definition we get between the rough and fairways in the summer.

Due to warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours our Celebration Bermudagrass grows most vigorously during the summer and conversely has substantial reductions in growth during the winter when the temperatures are lower and days are shorter. We will try and build as much rough density and growth as possible this time of year to carry the definition as far into the cooler months as possible.

Maintenance Update (8/19/22)

If you have been in SW Florida recently you know it has been hot. Every year we complain that it seems hotter than the last but according to Wink News, this year it really is.

There has been a lot of activity at GE this week so here we go…

Golf Course

 We started the week out with a light verticut and topdress. Light topdressing is intended to smooth the greens surfaces by removing excess and/or uneven turf growth. Topdressing has many benefits and as you will remember from when we heavy topdress greens during aerificaiton to dilute organic matter. Light topdressing does displace some organic material but is primarily intended to smooth green surfaces by filling in the small pores and imperfections between the turf and soil surface.

FPL has been out replacing power poles on #2 and will continue to the North along GE Blvd over the next several weeks.

Last but certainly not least, we added colorful plants behind #4 Tee box. This was an area identified by our Greens Committee for potential beautification and it is turning out great. Juan our Assistant Superintendent and the maintenance staff did a great job improving the look of this area.

Facilities Maintenance

One of our many summer projects is to pave the areas that have been broken up by tree roots in the parking lot. That starts with removing 4 trees that have overgrown their space and were the most problematic due to roots growing under the asphalt.

Another project is repurposing the back room at the divot. Work was started this week by removing the wall that divided the area into two rooms.

Very soon we will be painting, installing new flooring, and adding TV’s and tables to complete the new casual dining area.

Golf Course Maintenance

With the sunshine, warm weather and rain we have been having, the course is nice and green! We currently sit at 45.96” of rain year-to-date. That’s 10.36” more than the same time period last year.

Monday we were able to utilize being closed to spiked greens, lightly topdress greens, and apply a foliar (absorbed thru the leaves of the turf) fertilizer along with a plant growth regulator (PGR) - not pictured.

Facilities Maintenance

A major project is underway, the repair of the Radio Road wall. The repair worked started about a week ago but already improvements are noticeable when comparing before and after pictures of the work that has been completed so far.
