Glen Eagle Maintenance (6/27/25)

The rain has slowed down slightly over the last week as the golf course continues to heal heading towards the beginning of July.

We did have an equipment malfunction on Wednesday with a hydraulic hose leaking on some of the fairways and collars. The leak looks much worse than the effects it will have on the turf. It is mostly cosmetic and since it is growing season, it will recover pretty quickly.

This leak happened to be at the valve body under the operators seat and was very hard to see in the early morning dew. The picture below was taken a couple hours after the issue was discovered when the oil was more noticeable. The hydraulic oil we use is very light and a golden color that turns darker with time. The oil will eventually evaporate and the affected turf leaves will die and turn brown. Over time, new turf will grow over the old leaves and the lines will fade. I would expect the lines to be mostly gone once we reopen after our second closure in July.

Even with the temporary setback of a hydraulic leak, the crew worked hard to maintain our beautiful course and grounds.

Glen Eagle Maintenance (6/20/25)

We spent all of the last 2 weeks on major cultural practices so now it’s time to get back to detailing the course.

Course healing from the severe scalping we gave it while closed. We are still seeing old scalping and the greens still have some visible sand channels, all of which is to be expected. These areas should be healing up completely over the next 7 to 10 days.

Now that the skies have opened up they won’t stop. We are up to 10.16” this month with steady rain happening every afternoon. After the extended dry season, I’m not complaining, just reporting 😂.

Glen Eagle Maintenance (6/12/25)

 Another 1.32” of rain this week. Brings us to 6.24” for the month. So glad that dry spell has ended.

On top of providing hydration for turf, the June rain has brought the lakes up 17 inches.

Lightening that has accompanied the recent rains has been an issue. It blew out a couple of the boards in the Smart Hub. The Smart Hub controls all the irrigation in the field.

Another strike took out decoders on hole 13.

Decoders take the signal from the Smart Hub and decode it to turn on the sprinklers.

This closure we have concentrated on scalping old turf growth. Roughs started out at 1.5”, we took it down to 1”. Tees, Collars & Approaches were started at 0.700” and were brought down to 0.500”. As you will see in the video all this mowing created A LOT of clippings.

During these closures, we also put out a lot of sand. This closure we put out 275 tons (550,000#) of sand.

Glen Eagle Golf & Common Ground Maintenance (6/6/25)

 Well we were asking for it and it finally came, 4.98” of rain since Saturday. Yay! 🎉

With the recent rain, the lakes levels rose 14” which took us out of the critically low situation we have been in for the last month or so. With water levels high enough and rainy season on our door step, we are able to suspend our self imposed water restrictions including turning back on the fountains.

Normally I wouldn’t want much rain while we are closed for maintenance but we really needed it and we were lucky the rain came after we had left for the day. So we are still on schedule and have only lost about 3 hours of work so far. That is a win-win.

Looks like it will be dry the remainder of the week so we will work hard to make up those hours by week end and be ready for another good week of maintenance next week.
