 Golf Course

It happened again…it rained! We had 1.6” of rain over the weekend which really greened up the course and is helping to thicken up the turf in many areas.

We applied fertilizer with Ronstar (preemergent herbicide) out over the last week…

Also sprayed the course with foliar fertilizer and plant growth regulator (PGR) to help capitalize on the help Mother Nature has been giving us.

Like they say, “make hay while the sun is shining” and we need to grow grass when it rains so that is what we are trying to do.

Facilities

Hector has been up to Hector things…like pressure washing and putting together bookshelves; amongst routine items like changing light bulbs and draining a/c pans.

The roof has also made substantial progress. The tile work should be complete this week with just a few minor touchups left to button up next week.

Golf Course

The golf course and the weather are dry and hot. With no rain in 19 days, a 5+ inch deficit in rain fall (YTD), and record high temps, many in the mid 90’s, the course has many dry areas. I have been supplementing our night time watering by turning on additional water during my morning course checks but the only thing that will really make much difference is getting rain.

Even with the current weather conditions, the course continues to look good (dry spots not withstanding).

We used our first closed Monday to groom and topdress greens, and circle cut Tees & Fwys. These practices take more time to perform but really smooth out the surfaces and provide a higher level of playability.

Glen Eagle Maintenance (5/12/23)

 Golf Course

Something very weird happened this week. I went a whole week without one picture of the course. It has been hot and dry again so there are some hot spots that we are chasing with addition irrigation. I once again find myself looking forward to rainy season being here.

Other than that, not too much going on this week but normal maintenance. That changes some come Monday. Being closed on Mondays will allow us to perform tasks like circle cutting tees/fairways and topdressing suspected Nematode areas with Command. Nematodes are microscopic plant parasitic worms that attack turf roots. Due to the weakened roots, these areas tend to dry out more rapidly than areas with less nematode pressure. Using organic soil amendments like Command will help retain moisture and strengthen these areas. I can’t wait to get to work on them.

Facilities

We finally were able to complete the striping of the divot parking lot. I guess it’s true, good things come to those that wait. It turned out really good.

We had a few repairs at the Davis Entry gates.

Both have been repaired, good as new.

Carpentry work is being done this week. Next step will be an inspection then the tiles can start flying. That should happen over the next couple weeks which will keep us on track for a late May or early June completion.

Golf Course

Last week we applied insecticide to keep mole crickets, grubs and ants from tearing up the course. Since we were spraying anyways, I added foliar fertilizer and plant growth regulators to the mix and I can see both doing their job. The fertilizer has kept us nice and green while the PGR has provided uniformity to the growth of the turf.

Mrs. Dolin sent me this picture of the new flowers on #9. They really have turned out nice!

The rest of the course is looking pretty good too…

Common Grounds

There haven’t been many major common ground projects in a while. This is primarily because we want to wait until there is consistent rain before we add any new plant material.That will prevent us from having to hand water to get is established. We will be working on more projects during the summer and into next fall.

Facilities

The facilities department never stops though. Below are some of the more picture worthy repairs and replacements that Hector had going on this week.

Replaced broken latch at the divot… sorry, no after picture, you’ll have to trust me 😁

And repaired a leak behind the light in the pool. Wait, that wasn’t Hector but it was repaired none the less. 😂
