Glen Eagle Maintenance (5/29/25)

We came close to getting some rain this week but the seabreeze is still too strong and pushes the rain inland, just missing Glen Eagle. 

As temperatures continue to rise, hot spots become more widespread. The picture of 16 below shows how many of the mounds don’t hold water like the low areas and dry out first.

Temperatures are now regularly in the 90’s most afternoons and the 5 to 7 degree increase from earlier in the month is causing more heat/drought stress. If we had the water we would increase the irrigation time in these areas which would allow for adequate moisture. Since we don’t, we haven’t increased the water even though the plant needs more as temps rise causing new dry spots to emerge.

Even with the dry contidions, the grass is doing its best to grow. Warm overnight temps and hot daytime temps even without rain are promoting lots of growth.

We prepare for the first of 3 maintenance closures this summer, which will start next week. Our concentration will largely be on the golf course to take advantage of the time we have been given to work on major cultural practices. This week the team was hard at work on projects off the golf course.

Landscape Project at the Clubhouse 

Gustavo, Paulino and the guys did a great job converting this area into a beautiful new “landscape garden”.

Another crew worked on cleaning up the back planted hedge along GE Blvd at Montclair.

Trimming back the plants just a bit and shaping them up will help with density. Once all the trimming is completed, we will lay pinestraw along the sidewalk, completing the project.

Glen Eagle Maintenance (5/23/25)

Another week of waiting on rain but it finally looks like we are seeing chances for rain becoming more consistent over the weekend and into next week. With Sunday being our best chance for rain, I’ll be back to drawing turtles very soon 😁.

Glen Eagle Maintenance (5/15/25)

What a difference a night of rain can make! This past Sunday into Monday, we had 1.98 inches of rain that made a huge impact to our golf course and common grounds. The greens are looking lush, the fairways vibrant, and the entire landscape has a renewed spring in its step. Even better, our lake levels rose by a solid 6 inches.

As we move into the next 7 to 10 days, we get back to our summer heat. The forecast is calling for highs in the low to mid-90s, with clear skies and no rain in sight. It’s the perfect time to hit the course early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the peak heat. Don’t forget to stay hydrated, slather on the sun screen, and maybe keep an extra cold drink handy in your golf bag (within club rules of course 😜)!

It’s been a while since we have seen turf full and lush like we are seeing since the rain. Seeing good turf like this gives me hope for a great grass growing summer ahead.

Our staff was out pushing up bunker edges after the recent rains, a task we haven’t had to do in quite some time…

Paulino worked on cleaning up some of the landscape near the Divot this week…

And the Ficus was removed along Glen Eagle Blvd, behind Montclair Villas…

We will be filling in some of the gaps with new plant material, cleaning up along the sidewalk and adding pinestraw to make the area look good as new. Once we complete the area behind Montclair Villas, we will move on to the area behind Provincetown, along GE Blvd. We intend to have everything wrapped up by the end of May or early in June.
