As we move into summer, it certainly feels like the rainy season has officially arrived. With more than 5 inches of rain over the last week and forecasts calling for daily rain chances over the next 10 days, we are off to a great start. While the lakes are still below normal levels, they have risen nearly 12 inches, allowing us to turn the fountains back on throughout the community — a welcome sight for everyone.
Recent storms did bring us a reminder to get under cover when storms are near, and cover doesn't mean trees.
This Cypress Tree behind the Pro Shop took a direct hit from a lightening strike last week and in a split second blew it in half. A strong reminder of the lethal power lightening possesses.
Starting Monday, we will begin our summer cultural practices alongside several major summer projects. Two of the biggest projects include tee leveling and regrassing, as well as bridge redecking on holes 3, 4, & 15. We are excited to get these improvements underway, as both projects will have a significant positive impact on course conditions and the overall player experience once completed.
Our summer cultural practices are an essential part of maintaining healthy turf through the growing season and will include:
- Verticutting greens
- Greens aerification
- Wall-to-wall thatch removal
- Aerification throughout the course
- Scalping of select turf areas
It will certainly be a busy summer, but these efforts are critical to continuing to improve course conditions and playability. We appreciate everyone’s patience during the process and look forward to seeing the results in the months ahead.
