Glen Eagle Maintenance (4/25/25)

We had the guys from West Coast Turf Applications back out this week to spray. The primary reason for the application was to control mites and apply a wetting agent to fight hot spots.

As you can see in this picture the course is really starting to dry out as we desperately need some rain.

Unfortunately, the forecast is for dry weather and near record heat. Lake levels continue to drop and are very close to the lowest point they have ever been in the almost 6 years I have worked at Glen Eagle.

Although it is the last thing we want to do, very shortly, we will be implementing self imposed water reductions in efforts to keep Glen Eagle from running out of irrigaiton water altogether. These will include turning off fountains (to reduce evaporation), reducing common ground irrigation, asking communities that draw off the lakes for irrigation to reduce irrigation, and reducing water on the golf course, starting with the roughs.

Every year we have the same concerns but this dry season has been unlike others. 5+ inches of rain defeicite, very windy and temperatures 8 to 10 degrees above normal with no end in sight could produce conditions we have never seen before.

They say rainy season starts May 15th. Let’s hope it gets started a little early this year.

Just a reminder of the summer closure dates

Also, be aware, it is Gator mating season. During this time of year, Florida alligators are on the move finding mates. There have been several reports in the Naples area of gators that are out of their natural habitat. By that I mean the news has reported gators swimming at the beach, and on someone’s front porch, setting off their Ring cameras and doorbell.

Also on the move is a Florida Black Bear, spotted near 17 green on Tuesday. This one looks like a full grown male who may also be trying to find a mate.

Always stay away from lake banks and be aware of your surroundings.
