As we all know, Spring is one of the nicest times of year here in Naples. The mornings are crips, afternoons are warm, the sky is clear and the grass is green.  

This week amongst our routine maintenance, we had the greens deep solid tine aerified…

A quick reminder of why solid tine aerification is important to the health of the greens.

Solid tine aerification involves using solid tines (or spikes) to create holes in the soil without removing any material. Unlike core aeration, which removes plugs of soil, solid tine aerification simply penetrates the ground to create channels for air, water, and nutrients to reach the root zone.

Benefits of Solid Tine Aerification:

1. Improves Water Infiltration: The channels created by the solid tines allow water to penetrate deeper into the soil, preventing water from running off and improving moisture availability to the roots.

2. Enhances Nutrient Absorption: With the channels allowing for better movement of water and air, nutrients can more effectively reach the root system, promoting healthier growth.

3. Reduces Compaction: Over time, soil can become compacted due to foot traffic, machinery, or even weather conditions. Solid tine aerification helps to alleviate compaction, which in turn improves root development.

4. Increases Oxygen to the Roots: Aerification helps to improve the soil structure and increases the oxygen available to the roots, encouraging healthy root growth and a stronger plant.

5. Improves Soil Structure: Over time, the use of solid tine aerification can help break up dense soil, which promotes better soil structure and overall plant health.

6. Promotes Turf Recovery: For lawns or golf greens that have been stressed (from drought, heavy foot traffic, or disease), aerification provides a method for them to recover by improving root health and overall turf quality.

7. Minimizes Disruption: Since solid tine aerification doesn't remove soil cores, it causes less disruption to the surface, making it a less invasive option for turf areas that need regular maintenance without disturbing the appearance too much.

In essence, solid tine aerification is a preventive and restorative technique that can keep soil healthy and plants thriving by allowing air, water, and nutrients to reach their roots.

We are working on cleaning drains around the property hoping that one day it will rain again…
