The maintenance staff got right to work Monday morning coming off a long holiday weekend. The weather has been mostly kind to us this week so we are on track with our scheduled cultural practices.
Key items worked on this closure were deep tine greens aerification, wall-to-wall core aerification, deep spike fairway aerification, Terra Raking roughs and a whole lot of topdressing. By the end of this closure, we will have applied over 700 tons of sand to the course.
Why apply sand you say?
Sand topdressing benefits turf by:
- Improving Drainage: Sand enhances soil porosity, allowing water to percolate quickly, reducing water-logging.
- Smoothing Surface: Fills divots and low spots, creating a uniform, firm playing surface
- Reducing Thatch: Dilutes organic buildup, minimizing disease and pest habitats.
- Enhancing Firmness: Increases turf stability, improving traction and wear resistance under heavy traffic.
- Promoting Root Growth: Improves aeration, encouraging deeper, healthier roots.
- Aiding Recovery: Improves seed-to-soil contact for better germination.
