Golf Maintenance

We completed our last maintenance closure and the course came out looking pretty good. We had a very successful summer of maintenance and will now focus on fine tuning the course for season.

I wanted to highlight the work that was done on #5 bridge during the closure. The rotted decking was removed down to the stingers and a new deck installed. You will notice that we had Trex composite decking installed over the wooden sub-deck. The purpose of the Trex is to extend the life of the wooden sub-deck. Sun damages the protectant that is applied to pressure treated lumber which allows water to penetrate the wood and start the rotting process. The Trex is not degraded by sun and therefore shields the wood beneath which prevents premature rotting, thus extending the overall life of the bridge decking.

Another benefit to adding the Trex is since the sub-deck is laid perpendicular to the line of travel, when carts drive over it vibrations are created that resonate thuroughout the entire bridge structure. These vibrations loosen the connecting parts of the bridge (nails, nuts & bolts) and weaken the overall structure over a period of time. With the Trex laid parallel to the line of travel not only are the vibrations reduced, so is the noise made with driving over the bridge.

As bridges need to be replaced in the future, we will be using this same process to provide long lasting and beautiful bridge decking to our course.

Facilities Maintenance

This past week we completed the sealcoating and striping of the clubhouse parking lot, painted the interior of the divot, removed the flooring and installed new lights in the back room at the divot, and worked on building the base for the not yet named divot bar.

I want to say a special thanks to the volunteer group that painted the interior of the restroom facility on hole #13. It was a very big help to have them take over the painting while our staff concentrated on other projects. They did a wonderful job and the new lighter paint scheme has really brightened up the look!

One note, we will be painting the doors very soon. We have had to take extra steps in prepping the doors to prevent future deterioration due to rust but they will soon look just as good as the other parts of the facility.
